Loss of Faith
Due to a variety of reasons, I didn’t pick up new comics for about three weeks. In the past such a thing was unthinkable; I could barely wait until the end of the work day on Wednesday, let alone 21 days.
For example, a few years back, I was having some pretty acute stomach pains and was fairly sure that when I went to see the doctor that she would tell me I needed my appendix out. But prior to going to see the doctor, I first made sure to go to the comic shop and pick up my new books (it was a Wednesday afterall) and about 4 hours after I arrived in the emergency room I was waking up in a hospital bed minus one appendix.
My point is that the risk of peritonitis and possible death wasn’t enough to keep me away from the comic shop. Now however, I’m having trouble getting excited about the majority of the books coming out of the big two and have started to cull my reading list down quite a bit to reflect this frustration (why I’m feeling less interested in capes and whatnot is another blog post/podcast episode for sure).
So dear reader, I’m asking for suggestions of something entirely new to read. Indie, large publisher, tights, spy, western, whatever, I am willing to give almost anything a try; but don’t just tell me to read something, sell me on why I should give it a try and why it will restore a small part of my faith in the comic book medium…and if it is part of the Dark Reign tie in it better be damn good or else you’ll just be killing my faith even more.
