New comics for 3/3/2010 (now with 100% more new comic smell)!!

There are times when I wish I wasn’t so excited to pick up my comics immediately. Because that way when I finish an issue of something I really like, I could have another one waiting for me. This was a week like that for sure.

*Batman Confidential #42 (DC) – I love the bizarreness of Sam Keiths art. I do. His take on Batman is kind of surreal and wonderfully exaggerated. While the story doesnt really evolve as a traditional Batman story, the over-the-top-ness of it all has me sold for sure.

*The Boys #40 (Dynamite) – This issue… a whole lot of set up for some pretty big stuff that has been hinted at for quite sometime now. Sh*t is about to hit the fan and you can feel that in the writing for sure. As per usual, after finishing this issue, just left me wanting more (in a good way, not in the disappointed way). Always excited to pick up an issue and see what’s going to happen next.

*Detective Comics – Batwoman #862 (DC) – Just enjoying the heck out of this title I am. Rucka is doing a great job on crafting excellent Bat stories. In parts this run feels somewhat akin to Frank Millers Year One. Not a bad thing in my book at all. Nope, not at all.

*Sweet Tooth #7 (Vertigo) – If you’re a fan of the Walking Dead (or as previously stated The Road), you should really be reading this title. Feels like the two could exist in a very similar world. Well, minus out the actual zombies and adding in mutated children with animal attributes. There is a poignancy to Jeff Lemires art that really sets a tone in an otherwise bleak feeling world. Not surprisingly, can’t wait for the next issue.

*Chew #9 (Image) – Man if this comic was a cartoon it would blow my mind in the same way that Ren & Stimpy did. Not that those two are the same per se… it’s just that they’re both bizarre in concept and really well illustrated and executed for sure. Seriously one of the most original concepts for a comic in a long long long time. Also, for the record I’m glad it’s not a cartoon as that would be pretty disturbing to see some dude chomping on a dead guy or some such in the name of the law. I mean, in a comic book it’s totally fiiiiiiiiine but, animated would just be too much right? I’m such a wuss sometimes…

Every week, I think, I'm totally going to beat Pete to the weekly comics post. And I never do.

    Jerk.
