New comics for 8/11/2010 (now with 100% more new comic smell)!!

Submitted by Pete Greenberg on August 11, 2010 – 8:23 pmView Comments

Wow… it has been a while since I’ve written one of these huh? Oooooh boy it has. Well let’s see where we left off… better yet, let’s just pick up and start fresh. You like it when we do that right? Fresh. Clean. Good.

Walking Dead #76 (Image) - Oh man oh man oh man am I excited for the tv show. I’m also really excited that I managed to get through all of the trades (not really that tough a feat, I suppose) so that now I’m actually on to picking up the issues. I am ahead of the curve on this one. Oh yes I am. Oh, and did I mention I love this world gone kablooey zombie filled chaos comic? I probably should have.

Comic Book Guy The Comic Book #2 (Bongo) – Do I even need to explain why this comic rules and why people should get it? Best. Simpsons. Comic. Ever. Plus Stan Lee in this issue too!!

Northlanders #31 (Vertigo) – Brian Wood, you do the Norse folk proud. I swear sometimes I can smell the lutefisk and feel the grit (what’s Scandinavian for “grit” anyway?).

The Buzzard #3 (Dark Horse) - Okay I’m conflicted with this one. I love me some Goon. I love me some side characters in Goon. Like say… Buzzard. I’m really enjoying that he got his own comic. This is the last issue which means Eric Powell can get back to putting more Goon issues out. I like this. But I don’t want to see Buzzard go away either. Oh the torment. Oh the anguish.

Batgirl #13 (DC) - Ooooooooooooooh Ahe haaaaaaates this Batgirl. I think I understand why. However, I still think this title is a super fun read.

So, what’s in your pull list this week?

I do hate Steph Brown. I feel like, at any moment, one of the other characters will turn towards the reader and say “Sorry, guys. We purposely trained her wrong, as a joke. Took it a little too far. Our bad.” I mean, I like Jason Todd more and I hate that guy.

Although, I suppose I hate the writing on this series more than I hate the character. Keep that YA soap opera crap in Teen Titans where it belongs. Also, does the blonde girl in the Batfamily really need to be the chirpy idiot? That's great.

  • BatPete

Look, someone in the Batfamily has to be less than perfect and lawrdy knows sometimes superheroes bumble around a bit. Aaaaand maybe I enjoy seeing/reading that. I think your major objection to Steph is that she's in the Batfamily. If she was just some random trying to get it together, cape-type I'd bet you'd totally be bff's. Also, There is nooooooooooo way she is more of a pain in the behind than Damian. I swear that kid is asking to beaten with a wire hanger or a belt or a rock. Blerg.

  • ahe

First of all, everyone in the Batfamily is less than perfect. I mean, Batman pretty much only dates career criminals. And this one time, he built Brother Eye and basically started Infinite Crisis. He's also crazy, paranoid and an insane control freak who can't admit it when he makes crazy, paranoid, control freak mistakes.

But you're right: I don't like her being in the Batfamily because she SHOULDN'T be in the Batfamily.

Also, Damian doesn't have pink-tinged fantasy sequenced of making out with his ex-boyfriend. That's like +500 right there.

  • PeteSignal

Am I to believe that if YOU were in the Batfamily, you wouldn't have some of those thoughts or act that way a bit? Girl, I've met you. I already know you're all about the pink frilly make-out tingedness.

  • ahe

I'm pretty sure that if I were a Bat, I'd be mean for no reason, like Damian, but without all the murder.

  • Not-Frilly-At-All Pete

And frilly. I have no doubt about the frilly. You'd ask for a frilly bat-signal you would. You frilly philly.

  • ahe

Are you trying to bait me into saying “Get your head out of your ass, Pete?”
