You really shouldn’t say things like that. No, really.
Once again, Bleeding Cool has pinged my yeah-I’m-not-all-right-with-that-dar. I talked about their questionable, ill-informed blurb on Daken a few months ago. That was annoying, but I can understand that they were making a pop culture reference when they called him a “card-carrying friend of Dorothy” and maybe didn’t really think about it. Fine, whatever. I’m far less forgiving about Bleeding Cool’s weekly pick list in which they tell us to pick up Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, “Featuring Marvel’s #1 twinkerbell, Wiccan!”
What the fuck? Are you kidding me? I shouldn’t have to explain why this is offensive, but I will: this phrase connotes an offensive stereotype of gay young men as flighty and effeminate–and while sure, there are plenty of flighty, effeminate young gay men, Wiccan is neither of those things. Okay, he can fly, but he’s not flighty. And really, Twinkerbell? Tinkerbell is a fairy. Why would you think it was acceptable to call a gay character a FAIRY?
