I actually have high hopes for the Seth Green Star Wars series. If I recall what I first read about it, it's going to be more of an everyday, average joe story vs. big epic rebelliony stuff. I think there's some great stuff to be mined there.

My favorite part of the Robot Chicken specials was the whole day in the life of the walrus man bit, not to mention the whole contractors rebuilding the Death Star conversation from Clerks, and the way Rosencrantz and Guildenstern focuses on secondary characters only occasionally intersecting with the big story we already know, etc. Those sort of 'meta' stories within stories can be great stuff.

I totally see your point and think that if you were in charge of scripting, this show might stand a good chance. However, the bits you're talking about (that I absolutely think the writers should be focusing on) I'm pretty sure are gonna get missed. The Star Wars universe itself has never really left me with any sort of impression that humor is really anything prized in that world. (And yes, I know it is hard to make jokes when a rebellion is going on). Nothing I have seen has really led me to have any faith that George Lucas is any sort of better overlord of comedy than he is as a “dramatic” writer. And yes I know he won't be really doing any of the writing on this but, if he's approving scripts (and you know he will be) do you really trust his judgment on what counts as funny? Robot Chicken and Family Guy have indeed come up with some funny bits for sure. But they're not trying to do it every week. They get a lot of time to craft their jokes and re-imagining of the Star Wars Universe. Now try stepping away from the familiar areas of Star Wars that you already know and picture that they'll be new characters created to maintain these stories. From the guy who thought Jar Jar Binks was a good idea. See my point here? It just doesn't add up to a whole lot of potential in my book. And while I know I seem super down on it from the get go, I want to stress that I don't want it to be bad. I really don't. I love(d) Star Wars… this just feels like a cashing in opportunity from an already mishandled franchise. It hurts to see it happen.
